New Orleans is known for its music and I am happy to see more rockabilly on the scene. Meet Josie Kreuzer, see some special photos and read a flower poem message for parents-- support the arts!

Josie Kreuzer
The music talent that comes out of New Orleans is phenomenal and it seems to showcase all genres from gospel to jazz, blues, rhythm & blues, rock, folk, funk and rockabilly. From the early days of Jelly Roll Morton, Professor Longhair, Mahalia Jackson, and Satchmo to Fats Domino, Louis Prima and today, Harry Connick Jr., the Nevilles and the Marsalises as well as several jazz and blues artists too numerous to mention--Ernie K-Doe, Danny Barker, Pete Fountain, Marva Wright, Irma Thomas, Walter Wolfman Washington, Jay Monque'D, to name a few...
Josie Kreuzer is an original. A rockabilly singer, songwriter, guitarist who I knew before her days at New Orleans Creative Arts Academy and Macmain in New Orleans, she is true to her roots music be it rockabilly, hillbilly or blues.
What is Rockabilly, some of you might ask? It is the original form of rock and roll that started when country hillbilly music merged with blues and rock and roll in the 1950's. Elvis Presley, Wanda Jackson, Charlene Arthur, and Carl Perkins were some of the first musicians to put this music on the map.
The music is still ALIVE in Nawlins. Check out these venues: Midcity Rock n Bowl, Mermaid Lounge, Shim-Sham Club, Dixie Tavern, Circle Bar, Kingpin, Checkpoint Charlies, House of Blues, Louisiana Music Factory, to name a few. Come to JAZZ FEST! (April-May)
Josie is a sweet, humble person who credits experiences in New Orleans and listening to my music collection as being inspirations to her career. Her roots music singing style and songwriting have been compared to Hank Williams Sr. and Wanda Jackson. Her first cd, HOT ROD GIRL is a rebel without a cause's cure for the blues and her second cd, AS IS makes Hank William Sr. wish he were alive to dance!

I saw Josie play at Mid City Rock n Bowl here in New Orleans and it was a rockin show! As she heads to Brisbane, Australia to play in Greazefest this week, I would like to salute her. You go Down Under and breakaleg honey!
Oh, by the way, Josie happens to be my daughter, but I would still be a fan!
A FlowerPoem from Josie's First Fan
When you play music in your home
life becomes one big poem
songs will lull your babes to sleep
and give them dreams to always keep
One of my girls-her name is Josie
tells me my records made her cozy
and now she flies across the land
singin in her rockabilly band
Plus there's more I must exclaim
Josie Kreuzer to Brisbane
Australia the land of downunder
will hear her amazing rockin thunder
I am just a humble mamacita
who remembers Josie as a baby senorita
but this pretty lady sure makes me proud
when i hear so many kids cryin so loud
I want to tell parents everywhere
teach kids art- don't be square
cos no matter what comes down in life
Creativity copes with strife
Let them live their hopes and dreams
even when you want to scream
the more love you give the more they grow
as they say, reap what you sow
Keep the music alive
don't put up with any jive
if the compost hits the fan
plant a flower and start to jam!

Josie and Mom in French Quarter, New Orleans, 1998.
