A Happy Bastille Day tribute to my French friends with photos from Dom in Partis and JJ in Reunion Island.
photo by Dominique of her Paris garden
I wanted to wish my friends in France
a happy Bastille kind of dance
I wanted to smile at their festivities
and think good things about humanity
I heard they invited in good will
american firefighters to theis thrill
a parade on the Champs-Elysees
patriotism for all the free
I wanted to party with French wine
some brie and baguettes would be fine
Here in new Orleans we have a tie
Viva la France is in our pride
Sad to hear the news today
my heart sobs when I hear crazy ways
so glad no one was hurt at least
and may the nuts find their peace too
"The man was arrested at the top of the Champs-Elysees where it empties into Place Charles de Gaulle, site of the famous Arc of Triumph. He managed to reach the flag-bedecked Champs-Elysees despite heavy security. Police lined the avenue and mingled with crowds along the route.
In a traditional televised Bastille Day interview after the parade, Chirac was not asked about the assassination attempt and did not mention it. He called for a radical tightening of France's asylum laws and stronger efforts against the smugglers of illegal immigrants. Chirac also said the French military needs strengthening and expressed support for the building of a second aircraft carrier."-- AP

Rose rants: Thank God no one was hurt! I hope that the mood was not too dampened and I send my longtime wish for peace throughout the world. Insanity is sad but when it involves others in a violent way it is tragic. I wrote this after heariing about the attempted assasination of President Cherac in Paris during Bastille Day festivities. I was wishing my friend Dom good wishes all week and she told me how the French had invited some of the NYFD folks to their party and that there would be Westpointers involved in their parade. She did say she was not going to the festivities because she didn't like crowds much and I sure relate to that. You may have seen my birthday greeting to Dom last month or some of the pix of the Nawlins morning glories she grew from seeds I sent her last year. The lace on my hat was handmade by Dominique and she has a wonderfully cool cat named Othello.
Jean Jacques lives on a gorgeous tropical Island in the Indian Ocean called Reunion and he has sent me seeds from his vast collection of tropicals. He specializes in passiflora and has written articles for this site at Vinecrazy. Visit his website. See his beautiful daughters at Shroomgirls soon. I am rushing madly to add the archives of past articles since my sites were disrupted and with all the new stuff it ain't easy!
Suffice it to say I am so fortunate to have met some very wonderful internet friends here over the years. God bless the world and may we live peacefully together and the only insanity be a craziness for our passions--gardens, music, food, love and all that makes people, animals, teddy bears and the environment smile!
See other articles here about Dom and JJ!
Happy Birthday Dom!
